Rock Star Party!!

For Brinley's 8 Year Old party, she wanted a Rock Star theme. This was perfect since she's totally into singing and music right now. I remembered a party that my sister's friend (who is a craft-genius) did for her girls and copied some of it.
We (mostly Shawn cuz he's the perfectionist!) made a guitar cake. It turned out pretty awesome and we used these instructions. We had party favors with candy, glow sticks, sunglasses, etc. I personally LOVED the feather, hot pink ribbon I found even though it was all over the place!

When each friend came to the door, Brinley pretended to be a manager/security of some sort and passed out sunglasses and backstage passes. Now they were officially ready to party!

After we had already planned the party, Shawn unexpectedly told me that he actually had to work. On a Saturday?? He was teaching a class at a Financial Aid Conference and didn't know he had to go to a meeting that day. Luckily, he was able to baptize Brinley that morning and have a family lunch and then he had to go. So I enlisted the help of my family to help clean up the big lunch we had and decorate for the party. My BFF even stayed to help out during the party. They were wonderful!! We had stars, balloons, and streamers hanging from the ceiling. My sister, Tiff, did it and it looked awesome! Then, my dad helped me figure out how to hang the curtains for the "stage" since I didn't want to do any permanent damage to my walls or ceiling. They hung on right until the very end and then they fell down. :)
Here they are all ready to PARTY!!
Brinley wanted to do a Bubble gum blowing contest so we worked that in...and I still wonder why she wanted to do it since she can't blow a bubble.
Then, we made a craft since all girls this age love to make crafts. They each made a microphone out of toilet paper rolls and aluminum foil (again, all these cool ideas are from my sister's friend's blog). I was ecstatic when I saw this awesome animal print duct tape! Of course most of the girls wanted both prints.
After the craft, we headed to the stage and they got their rock on! Brinley and I made a playlist of songs that kids her age would know...Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, etc. The girls had a blast singing and dancing. We also played Freeze Dance which is a huge hit. Then, we had cake and ice cream! It was a little nuts for a while (mostly cuz Sadie screamed her lovely high-pitched scream frequently thoughout the party), but the girls pretty much entertained themselves! ROCK ON!!

Sadie-22 Months

I feel like Sadie is growing up way too fast and I'm not doing a great job documenting all her milestones (or taking pictures!)...even if they are few and far between for now. But since she's gotten tubes in her ears, I feel like she's understanding me better and talking a little more. Even just this week, she's actually trying to say things that we tell her to say. She used to just tell us stuff in her own jibberish language, but now I can tell that she actually tries to copy us. So here are some of the words she's saying: Da-Da (this goes for dog and mommy. She used to know how to say mommy but not anymore!), ball, bear, ba-ba (for bottle and bye-bye), Jesus, nose, eyes, no, and oh no! I love it when she says this cuz she says it with a pouty-face. She will also fold her arms and say a prayer in her own language too. Still not a big vocabulary for her age, but at least she's improving. I am looking into maybe finding some help for her, but just this week she's improved a lot so we'll see! I'm really not too worried.

She still screams a lot to tell us what she wants and doesn't want (especially when Cambree is near) and doesn't quite understand everything I need her to at swim lessons this week. We're in a mom and me class and it's screaming about 1/2 the time.
Physically, she is all there. She walks down the stairs...sometimes without holding onto the wall which freaks me out. She climbs on chairs and tables...luckily she hasn't climbed out of her crib! Throws and kicks balls and rides her trike.
And here's that great hair of hers! I put it in a pony only stayed about 1/2 the day.

Can't wait for what's in store within the next few months! I'm sure she'll be talking up a storm!

May Outings...

Summer is in full swing and things are getting busy! The girls (myself included in a class with Sadie) are in swim lessons the next two weeks so that just makes things crazier.
Anyway, I need to play catch-up. I wanted to post the few fun things we did in May before I get on with Summer.
My brother works for a computer company that has a big gym and a theater you can reserve for free. I've been telling him for months we want to go there, so he finally scheduled it. Of course, since he scheduled something his kids got sick and only he came. That always happens to them! It was my family, my sister, and some of my SIL's family. The kids had fun running around, but their favorite thing was the rope swing. We had pizza and Shawn and I played ping-pong...where I'm sure I kicked his trash ;). Then, we went to the theater to watch Tangled. It was a GREAT theater! It was nice to just let Sadie run around and not worry too much about disrupting people. It was a good night!
Shawn even tried it but I missed the shot of him in the air. I asked him to do it again, but he declined...he's to weak. ;)
He'll also love this one of him on the court. He was in heaven running, kicking, and shooting.
And, sweet Sadie stuck in the tire. :)
Earlier in the month, (oops! I guess it was in April...the date is right on the picture) we went to Bountiful for my cousin's wedding reception. It was snowing!! Ugh. The best thing was they had a photo booth. We had some fun with that!
Finally, it was the end of soccer season...which is always kind of nice. I missed a lot of games since most of my shoots are on Saturday mornings. We had to do a lot of juggling since Shawn had some scout camps too Saturday mornings.
Poor Brinley. This was the last game of the season and she was SO close to making a goal at the beginning of the game. So I told her if she made a goal, I would buy her a Happy Meal. So she tried and didn't ever do it. So she was SUPER sad. Oops. She had a lot of fun though and wants to do it next year.
Cambree, on the other hand, wants to take a break from soccer. That's fine with me! She needs to get a little older and not so scared to take the ball away...which is funny cuz she has no problem taking other things away from people. ;)
One last bit of exciting news, I've been submitting a few photos to the website. They picked one of my photos! It's the Photo of the Week this week! It's quite an honor. Here is the link:
The picture is also on their Desktop Wallpaper page. It's always feel free to put it as your wallpaper!

Vegas Baby!

Since our Vegas plans got deterred during our Spring Break (my sister got married), we still needed a vacation! So we went to Vegas to visit Shawn's brother and his family for Memorial Day weekend (yes, I'm back-tracking a little). They have a pool and I was just ready for some warm weather!
Last minute, Shawn's parents decided to come with us and follow in their car. Let's just say it was an interesting drive! We arrived late Friday night but the kids were DYING to swim so we let them night swim for a little bit with their cousins. They were in heaven! Saturday, we swam all morning and just were nice. The weather was in the 90's and perfect. That night, Val & Sarah had free tickets to see The Vegas Show at Planet Hollywood casino. I've never been there before and it was interesting maneuvering around Vegas since it was a holiday weekend. We wanted to have dinner at the Rio buffet (Shawn absolutely LOVES this buffet), but the line was too long and we were going to miss the show. So we got out of line and booked it to the casino. Traffic was terrible and so was the parking, so we didn't even get a chance to have dinner before the show. Luckily, I had some granola bars in my purse! Before the show, they have you sit in a lounge and order drinks that you can take with you to the show. Kind of a different atmosphere for us Utahans. The show was good with great singing and dancing and acting. It was about the history of Vegas. THEN, we got some dinner! I was starving!
Here we are in front of Planet Hollywood. We kinda hogged the frame...Oops! And I would say Shawn and Val look the least like siblings...just maybe the blue eyes.
When we got home, Barbara babysat all the kids (she's so wonderful!). They all had pie and I guess none of them wanted to finish eating their pie. So she labeled all the plates and put a bowl over them for safe-keeping. I just had to take a pictures cuz it's just the thing she would do!
Sunday we went to church and then came home for a yummy BBQ dinner. The weather actually turned kind of cold (70's) and windy so the kids couldn't swim. We have never seen the old Vegas strip so we went down to Freemont street for a little walk. They have a mile long TV screen covering the sidewalk. It was pretty neat!
Here's the girls watching the TV above!

Here's the group! It was pretty crowded so it was hard maneuvering us all around there!
Now that is some MAJOR BLING!
Monday, the kids wanted to swim one last time and the weather was back to beautiful. Sadie kept walking around and falling in the pool last time we swam and I wasn't swimming this day so she didn't get to go sad!
Sarah and I hit the mall cuz Gymboree was having a great sale and I had a GREAT coupon. I got lots of great boy stuff! I'm so excited!
Val & Sarah always know how to entertain! We always have the best time there and always do tons of fun stuff. Our kids love hanging with their cousins too and can't wait to go back!

Brinley Baptized??

I seriously can't believe I have an 8 Year Old already! Where did that come from? I remember when she was born and I talked about her being 8 and getting baptized. It seemed so far away. But it came and went! And now she's a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I'm so proud of her and her decision to be baptized. She had her interview with the bishop and answered all the questions confidently without me prodding her in any way.
Her baptism day was so special. It was on her birthday! She also had 6 other friends getting baptized that same day! They had to split it up into 2 sessions. We had 5 girls in our session and they all sang a baptism song. It was beautiful.
The program was short and sweet and her baptism went well. She had a little trouble getting up the stairs but it might've been because she couldn't see so well without her glasses. :) Shawn also did the confirmation which was also very touching. Lots of family came. We are so blessed to have such supportive families.
Her friend was also getting baptized soon so we did their pictures at the same time. I love this one!

Brinley is one smart girl and I admire the way she always wants to choose the right. She also continues to ask millions of questions and retains a lot of what she learns. She is a curious one! Brinley loves to talk...I'm pretty sure she gets that from her Grandma Hancock. They could talk for hours on the phone with each other. :) She still loves projects, but I think her favorite thing now is music. She loves having the music on and singing (LOUD) to all the words, especially while she "cleans" her room. ;) People have commented on her good voice so I think we'll need to get her in lessons or something sometime. She really enjoys it. In fact, for her birthday party she had a Rock Star theme. That will be another post. :)
We have a special, beautiful, and talented girl that chose our family. We are so blessed.
And I'm also pretty proud of the 8 baptism cake we made for the luncheon afterward. I stole the idea from my neighbor, baked the cakes and Shawn executed it. Definitely not as good as hers but not too bad!

Preschool Field Trip

The Zoo Field Trip got postponed because of the rainy weather we've been having for a week. Try telling that to a 5 year old. It was hard for Cambree to wait but it was worth it! The weather was perfect. We went around with Cambree's friends (and my friends) so it was really fun! I brought Sadie along because I thought she'd love looking at all the animals. I was right! She was in awe...until it was nap time. Then she screamed in line for the Train ride and when we got off the train. A nice lady was prepared with Smarties. She was good for a little bit because of those. Then, she did not want to be in her stroller anymore. It was time to go!
Sadie wasn't so sure about the carousal ride at first, but when it started she was a fan! For that matter, Cambree wasn't a fan either. She wanted to sit on one that didn't move until I finally convinced her otherwise.
Sorry for the belly shot. She was squirmy!
The dinosaurs were the new thing at the zoo. I guess mixing prehistoric with living works.
