Christmas Wrap-Up

Ahh...Christmas is over. So sad. I tried to drag it out this year, but it still ends! My decorations are still up. Maybe next week I'll take them down. We still have the Hancock Family Christmas Party...so I'm still in Christmas-mode I guess.
THIS IS ALL FOR MY JOURNAL...SO YOU MAY SKIP OVER! IT'S BORING!
This year, we thought we'd for sure spend Christmas at home and then go to my parents' house. But my mom was really wanting us to go there and Shawn had more days off work than normal, so we ended up going out there Wednesday night. My mom even came out and got our Santa gifts since they were a little big this year (Brinley got a bike). Yeah...she really wanted us there!
Christmas Eve, my brother and his family came and my sister, Tiff, brought a friend to spend Christmas with us. My other sister, Mandy, was already there. Shawn went with my brother and took the kids sledding. I REALLY need some sledding pictures! But I always stay home with Sadie. We had an early Christmas Eve dinner with a turkey and everything. Mom went all out. The highlight of the night was when J.J. & Kristy surprised us all that they were expecting a baby in July! That's so exciting!
Then, we had a program. We've never done it before, but it was actually really fun! Mandy played the piano a lot, Shawn sang with my mom, Cambree danced and showed up in every talent performance, J.J. played the guitar while his wife and Mandy sang, Brinley played the piano, Tiff's friend is a Native American and he told some cool stories, and then for the finale, me, Shawn, Brinley, Mandy, Tiff, and my dad did a 12 Days of Christmas skit. It's pretty funny!

Yeah...Shawn got all dressed up for the occasion. :)

 Now, he's dressed up! That's better. :)

Then, the kids (and a few adults) got dressed up to do the Nativity play. Such a nice way to end the evening.

The girls got in their new jammies from Grandma Hancock, set out cookies, and then went to bed pretty good! The adults played games until we were sure the kids were asleep. It was fun having so many "Santas" in the house.

Christmas morning, we had German pancakes and then got to see what Santa brought us. The hit was definitely the Wii. I'm excited to actually play it (never had before) and hopefully get the Wii Fit someday. That was my reason for getting it. We also got Cambree an educational game...so there you go!
After the Santa thing, we bring out all the presents under the tree and go one-by-one opening them to see what we got each other. It takes a while and the girls were getting impatient!

The rest of the day, we relaxed and played games and staying up way too late! The next morning, I went to Wal-mart with my mom to see what after Christmas sales we could get. We headed home early to see Shawn's brother from Vegas. He came up last-minute for Shawn's nephew's mission homecoming. While Shawn was hanging out with his brother, I went to a HUGE family Christmas party on my mom's side of the family. It's at my aunt's barn with a fast slide, ball pit, rock climbing wall, b-ball court, skee ball, etc. I had fun catching up with my relatives while Brinley played and played. Cambree stayed with Shawn and her cousins.
After that, I came home and the adults (Shawn's brothers and wife) wanted to see a movie. So, we get our kids to bed and head out. SOLD OUT. Duh. We should've known! So no movie.
The next day was Layne's (our nephew) homecoming. He's a great kid and did an awesome job. I'm so glad he's set a good example for all the other cousins that look up to him.
We have a few more things coming up this week for New Year's. I'm glad about that. But it's sure nice to take a little break in between it all. Sadie needs a break too...

Christmas Lights

The one thing we did do for Christmas was going to Thanksgiving Point to drive through the lights. We knew we could do this with Sadie! She did cry some of the time, but not too bad.
Anyway, we've never done it before and it was pretty fun. The kids loved it and I liked experimenting with my camera. See:

The drive ended with pictures of The Nativity. What a great reminder.

Christmas Sunday

All season long, I've felt a sort of void. Usually around Christmas, I'm busy shopping or doing photography or other festivities. This year, I really haven't been busy and we knew that we wouldn't be able to go many places with Sadie. We got the tree up on Thanksgiving Weekend (that's never happened). We had our neighborhood and ward parties all on the same week the first week of December. So I thought Christmas cheer would be going strong earlier than ever. But things kind of faded. I think I thrive on being busy!
As I'm typing this, I'm realizing what a blessing my busy-lessness was. But I didn't take advantage of it. I filled it with other things...I don't know what!
But now it is full. We were able to go to the Temple yesterday, which was so lovely.  I didn't even realize it would be Christmas Sunday until late last night. The girls don't have new Christmas dresses like I was hoping for. But that's ok. We had a wonderful day at church today filled with music and lessons all about Christ. Sure, I had to sit by myself while Shawn was up singing with the choir and Cambree was definitely less-than-perfect, but I did hear the songs (not the talk...at least there was only one!) and it filled me up. It's just sad I count on other people to help me get into the Christmas Spirit. Maybe next year it'll click.
So I guess it's tradition now to take a family picture ever Christmas Sunday! My cute family minus me!

I'm so blessed to have such cute, good  girls!

Cambree Sheds Some Light...

...on how we'll get a baby boy next time around.

Cambree:  I want a baby brother.
Me: Yeah, maybe someday we'll get a baby boy.
Cambree: Daddy needs to have the baby so it will be a boy.
Me: I think that's a great idea!

I totally see her way of thinking! I wish it was that way...but then again, there would be WAY less boys in the world! It for sure wouldn't be even. :)

I'm so glad I'm remembering to write these funny things down that my kids have been saying lately! I don't always do it.

Brinley's First Crush

Oh boy! I didn't think we'd be discussing this yet! I thought Brinley only thought of boys as friends and she wants to be friends with everyone.
At the ward Christmas party she said, "I love (name of the boy in our ward, whose mom reads my blog but never comments...you know who you are!). He's so handsome." I told her that you can't love someone until you're in college. I hope that took care of the problem. Probably not. I'm sure I'll have MANY more discussions about this topic. Oh joy.

We're all Christmasified!

Christmas seems to be coming so fast this year! Maybe because I have a cute baby that's distracting me a lot. :) We finally put the lights up since there was actually a Saturday without BYU football!

(the girls goofing around before the party...and I was trying out my flash in almost no light...not too bad, but a little red.)
Friday was our Ward Christmas party. Santa, of course, came. Cambree told me all day that she would go sit on Santa's lap and tell him what she wanted for Christmas. At the party she was still stoked. When Santa came...not so much. We couldn't get her to sit on his lap. Oh well. Maybe next year...or maybe not. But Brinley and Sadie did! What cuties! We didn't even have to wait very long. Santa was crankin' them through!

I told Cambree to give me a sad look since she didn't sit on Santa's lap. She wouldn't do it until I took one of her smiling. Stinker!
